Sugar Plum – Special dog needing special care

Sugar Plum was nervous and frightened when she came to Cleveland Animal Care & Control, but you could tell there was a bright and happy girl underneath her shell. In addition to being underweight and overbred, she was clearly suffering severe discomfort as a result of having entropian in both eyes. Sugar Plum constantly scratched and rubbed her watery eyes – it was clear she would need surgery to fix her condition. So she was quickly plucked by the City Dogs Adoption Ambassador program and was taken home by two volunteers so that she could put on some weight and get the proper post-operation care she needed following her eye entropia surgery.

Sugar, who lovingly came to be known as “Momma” in her foster home, immediately began to settle in and come out of her shell thanks to the help of her two foster sisters – including a City Dogs alum, Annabel! Not long after she was scheduled for surgery, it was found that Sugar was heartworm positive, even though she had tested negative weeks before at the kennel. Fortunately, Sugar was already in a home where she could go through her lengthy treatment comfortably… but unfortunately it also meant her entropian surgery had to wait, as heartworm can cause complications with anesthesia, so her eye discomfort would unfortunately continue.

After six long months, Sugar successfully completed her heartworm treatment. And after a month of post-treatment evaluation she was then able to have her final entropian surgery! Lucky Sugar was able to get her treatment and find her forever home all at once. After having Sugar for almost 9 months due to the extensive treatments, her foster parents decided to make it official and adopt her for good. They could not picture their life without her as part of their family!

Sugar’s care would not have been possible without the great care and support of Friends of the Cleveland Kennel. Without this funding, amazing dogs like Sugar would not be able to get the treatment they need so that they can have the chance to move on and find their forever home. Sugar’s family and all the volunteers who love her are so grateful to FOCK and its supporters!

Myrtle came into Cleveland Animal Care & Control as a stray. She had the best personality, and got along great with other dogs in the play groups, she was then approved for the City Dogs Adoption program at Animal Control!

Unfortunately, Myrtle was diagnosed with heartworm disease and also had mammary tumors that needed removed. Myrtle was placed into a foster home via the City Dogs Foster program.

Thanks to Friends of the Cleveland Kennel, all of Myrtle’s medical needs were taken care of, in order to take the next step in finding her forever home. She was treated for heartworm disease, and later was spayed and had her mammary tumors removed. She is recovering beautifully and is currently up for aodption!
